AARON ROSE
Aaron Rose ist Künstler, Regisseur, Kurator und Schriftsteller. Er gilt als einer der Meilensteine der modernen, urbanen Kunstbewegung. Zehn Jahre lang (1992-2002) war er Besitzer und Direktor der Alleged Gallery in New York. Seitdem arbeitet Rose als freier Kurator und bildender Künstler. Seine Arbeiten werden in Galerien auf der ganzen Welt ausgestellt, darunter die Hope Gallery (Los Angeles), Postmasters (New York), Colette (Paris) und Dover Street Market (London). 2006 war Rose Co-Kurator für die Wanderausstellung Beautiful Losers: Contemporary Art & Culture, welche 2009 auf Welttournee ging. Im Zuge dessen entstanden der begleitende Katalog (Distributed Art Publishers, 2006) sowie der Dokumentarfilm Beautiful Losers (Arthouse Films/Oscilloscope), welcher internationale Erfolge feiern konnte. 2011 war er Co-Kurator (zusammen mit Roger Gastman und Jeffrey Deitch) einer Großausstellung mit dem Titel „Art In The Streets“, die Besucherrekorde im Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA) erzielte.
2009 wurde er von der Werbeagentur Wieden & Kennedy engagiert, um bei der Entstehung von WKE (WKEntertainment) mitzuwirken, einem themenspezifischem Unterhaltungssender und einer Produktionsfirma. Bei WKE ist Rose der Produzent einer Vielzahl von Fernsehprojekten, wie Califunya, D.I.Y. America und Don't Move Here - Beispiele für seine zahlreichen Filmprojekte.
Er wird von der Los Angeles Produktionsgesellschaft vertreten, welche auch Mike Mills, Patrick Daughters und Sofia Coppla repräsentiert. Aaron Roses Verlag Alleged Press gibt gebundene Ausgaben über zeitgenössische Künstler wie Ari Marcopoullos, Ed Templeton, Mike Mills, Barry McGee und Chris Johanson heraus. Rose ist Mitherausgeber von ANP Quaterly, einem Kunst- und Kulturmagazin, das von der Skate- und Surfmarke RVCA publiziert wird.
Ferner gründete er das Bildungsprogramm namens Make Something!!, in dem Jugendliche mit international renommierten, jungen Künstlern zusammen arbeiten. Rose war ebenso Gründer der wegweisenden, experimentalen Rock Gruppe The Sads, die zwischen den Jahren 2006-2009 durch die USA und Europa tourten. Die Band ist bekannt für ihre Nummer „Silent“, in der die Gruppe auf elektronischen Instrumenten spielt, die das Publikum nur über Kopfhörer wahrnehmen kann.

Aaron Rose is an artist, film director, exhibition curator and writer who is known as one of the cornerstones of the modern urban art movement. For ten years (1992-2002) he was owner/director of the Alleged Gallery in New York. Since then, Rose has been working as a freelance curator. As a visual artist, Rose has exhibited internationally including Hope Gallery (Los Angeles), Postmasters (New York), Colette (Paris), and Dover Street Market (London).
In 2006, Rose was co-curator of the museum exhibition Beautiful Losers: Contemporary Art & Street Culture which toured the world through 2009 and the accompanying hardcover art book (Distributed Art Publishers, 2006). Rose was also director of the feature documentary film Beautiful Losers (Arthouse Films/Oscilloscope).
In 2011 he co-curated (with Roger Gastman and Jeffrey Deitch) a large-scale exhibition titled "Art In The Streets", which opened to record crowds at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA). In 2009, he was hired by advertising agency Wieden & Kennedy to help create WKE (WKEntertainment), a content-driven entertainment channel and production house.
At WKE, Rose is the producer of numerous television projects including Califunya, D.I.Y. America, and Don’t Move Here, the latter two which he also directed. Rose is represented as a director by the Los Angeles production company, who also represent Mike Mills, Patrick Daughters and Sofia Coppola. His publishing imprint, Alleged Press releases hardcover books by contemporary artists including Ari Marcopoulos, Ed Templeton, Mike Mills, Barry McGee and Chris Johanson.
Rose is also co-editor of ANP Quarterly, an arts and culture magazine published by skate/surf brand RVCA. Besides, Rose is the founder of Make Something!!, a nationwide art education program for teens which partners world-renowned creative personalities with young aspiring artists. Rose was also founder of the seminal experimental rock group The Sads, which toured both the US and Europe from 2006-2009. The band was most well know for staging "silent" performances where the band plays electronic instruments that cannot be heard in the venue without the audience's use of headphones.
